The Orphan Thief Review

Happy Remembrance Day!

For those who don’t know, Remembrance Day is a Canadian holiday on November 11th where we remember those who served during World War II. And, well, today is November 11th. So in honour of Remembrance Day, I am taking a break from The Alaska Saga to bring you a WWII novel review. Shall we?

Summary

As Hitler’s bombs fall on a battered and beleaguered Britian, Ruby Shadwell is dealt the most devestating blow-her entire family lost during the Coventry Blitz.

Alone and with the city in chaos, Ruby is determined to survive the war and rebuild her life. And a chance encounter with street urchin Tommy gives Ruby just the chance she needs…

Because Tommy brings with him Canadian sergeant Jean-Paul Clayton. Jean-Paul wants to help them, but Ruby cannot bear another loss.

Can love bloom admist the ruins? Or will the war take Ruby’s last chance at happiness too? ~blurb taken from book

Evaluation

I always love the scene when the soldier returns home. That scene always gets me! Though a tad slow perhaps, it was a good book, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Tommy was adoreable, Ruby was strong, the grandparents were so sweet, and Jean-Paul was wonderful! If you’ve been around a while, you’ve probably noticed that I talk about characters a lot. And that’s because they mean a lot to me!

Conclusion

So in conclusion, I enjoyed this book. I was only disappointed with one thing (see Sensitive Topics). I was hoping Ruby would hold out, but in the end she gave in. So my rating is a 4/5. If you like world war novels, an independent teenage female, or sweet characters, then I recommend this novel to you.

Sensitive Topics

  • A very-near-to-sex sex scene

  • Mentions later they did have sex

  • An abusive man
