The Final Gambit Review

Mystery, intrigue, a final game, a hostage, will Avery discover once and for all why Tobias chose her? Today’s novel is The Final Gambit, the third installment of The Inheritance Games series by Jennifer Lynn Barnes.

Summary

To inherit billions, all Avery Kylie Grambs has to do is survive a few more weeks living in Hawthorne House. The paparazzi are dogging her every step. Financial pressures are building. Danger is a fact of life. And the only thing getting Avery through it all is the Hawthorne brothers. Her life is intertwined with theirs. She knows their secrets and they know her.
But as the clock ticks down to the moment when Avery will become the richest teenager on the planet, trouble arrives in the form of a visitor who needs her help—and whose presence in Hawthorne House could change everything. It soon becomes clear that there is one last puzzle to solve, and Avery and the Hawthorne brothers are drawn into a dangerous game against an unknown and powerful player.

Evaluation

I enjoyed this series. I tore through it in one weekend. I don’t usually read mystery/thrillers, but, oh, this one! I’ve only read two others that I enjoy better (Enola Holmes and The Blackfriars Lane series). The characters have such layers, which, to a character-loving author, is fantastic. The plot! All plot twists and turns I didn’t see coming. And finally, which team was I on…? Grayson. I loved his character the most in this one, I believe. He’s so sweet!

Conclusion

So in conclusion, I enjoyed this novel as much as the other two, so I give it a 4/5 as well. If you like intriguing, semi-dark mysteries, the other two books, rags-to-riches, then I recommend this novel too you! There are these to consider, of course…

Sensitive Topics

  • Avery and Jameson sleep together, but there’s no sex

  • Lesbian couple (no kissing this round)

  • Mild language (word replacement still)
